Starting Your Blog in 3 Simple Steps

There are three main steps to start your blog. Just follow this step-by-step guide and you’ll have your blog in a couple of minutes. I am focusing on making this whole lot as simple as possible. I will not give you a ton of options to opt from, like hosting plans, blog platforms, themes, and so on. These secondary things will probably be gonna make you intimidated at this level.

  1. Choosing a Platform for Your Blog – WordPress
  2. Choosing a Domain name and Webhosting for your Blog
  3. Design Your New Blog

Let’s move on!

1. Choosing A Platform For Your Blog – WordPress

The first and foremost thing is to choose a platform where your blog will go live. WordPress is the Globally recognized platform for Blogging. I recommend you get stuck with it. Once you’ll get familiar with it you will realize its potential and tons of options to customize your blog site.

wordpress

WordPress is one of the biggest blogging platforms in the world, with unlimited plugins and add-ons and almost unlimited ways to design and layout your blog site.

There are millions of active users of WordPress over the internet. Stay with WordPress and leave the other platforms, for now, so you don’t get overwhelmed.

  • It’s a Super easy setup and is open source, which means it’s free to use
  • Millions of free themes & plugins
  • Your blog will immensely be fast
  • Your content can easily be shared, commented and interacted with it

2. Choose a Domain name and Webhosting for your Blog

Now you have decided to start your blog with WordPress, the next step is to choose your domain. You may ask what the heck is a domain? Let me clarify to you with simplicity. A domain name is the URL or address of your website. Rather it’s your identification on the internet like mine is bloggingregime.com

You have to choose your domain name over the internet. The best way to find your domain name availability is NameBoy.

Simply go to the site, enter your desired name and it will tell you that your name is available or already taken. (Look Mine is already taken by me)

Tips for Choosing a Domain Name

  • It should be minimalist
  • It should be easy to remember
  • Try to grab the .com extension. It’s most famous over the internet, reliable & preferable. If you don’t get your domain name in .com then the second option is .net which is the second most reliable domain extension over the internet.

Okay, now it’s time to buy a domain and hosting. Hosting is actually the company that maintains and runs your website online and saves your site data on its servers. Though there are tons of Webhosting companies out there, I’ll recommend you to start with a BlueHost, it’s fast, reliable, comparatively cheap, and being used by millions of bloggers. Go to the Bluehost site and start with its basic plan. It will guide you through how to set up your domain and hosting, follow these simple steps, and finalize your purchase.

bluehost

BlueHost is the best and cheapest hosting provider which costs you less than 3 dollars per month. A domain name will cost you around $9-15 a year, but with Blue Host, you can get that for FREE the first year.

If you prefer to go with other hosting and don’t want to go with the BlueHost for any reason, feel free to choose your own hosting company. Most hosting sites provide One-Click WordPress install, that button will automatically install WordPress on your blog.

Once WordPress is installed on your website, all you have to do to start blogging is go to your WP-Admin page (usually www.yourblogname.com/wp-admin) and start writing by adding a new post.

Initially, the WordPress layout may look confusing to you, but it’ll be understandable in less time.

3. Design Your New Blog

Now comes designing your blog. You need to choose a free theme at starting and don’t buy any themes at this stage. There are millions of free themes available. To choose a new theme, you can either head to Appearance > Themes and install a free WordPress theme.

The fastest and simple themes I recommend are Generatepress, Astra, and Hello Elementor. I personally use generate press theme because it’s simple and speedy.

generate press

Try to opt that looks professional and easy to customize. WordPress has great features which allow you to change your themes in a few clicks. So if you get tired of your current template, you can just switch to another one without losing any piece of content or images.

Bear in mind that your blog’s design should reflect your personality, and also what the blog is about. It will sound ridiculous and have no sense of having a food-orientated theme if your blog is about Home Decor, got it?

Primarily, it should be easy to navigate if you want people to stick around. It shouldn’t be tricky and difficult to move around. The color scheme should match your niche, for example, if you are blogging about home décor or gardening then the color theme should be natural. You can get hundreds of ideas on the internet. Just google “ soft natural color pallets”, or “soft green color pallets” and you will get ideas as per your preference.

dashboard

And that’s it! I can say for sure that your initial blog setup has now been finished and ready to go. Now you have to explore the WordPress dashboard and check each item and try to get familiarized with the dashboard for yourself at first & if anything is confusing you just google it or simply go to the WordPress Community site where you’ll find all the necessary answers.

If you get stuck at any stage or have any questions about how to create a blog, just leave a comment below. I’ll figure you out with any issue.

Enjoy and have a great Blog!
