5 Fears You Should Avoid To Start Blogging
5-fears-you-should-avoid-while-blogging

Fear is a natural part of human nature. So, whether you are planning to start blogging for the first time, buying a new house, or starting a new career. It is completely natural to have a little bit of fear or maybe sometimes a lot of fear because you have spent at least one fraction of a moment thinking of all the good things that can come from it, and then also thinking of all the things that could go wrong.

I am going to focus on five very common blogging fears or fears about blogging or starting a blog and we’re just gonna face them head-on. Because that’s kind of my personality to tackle the problems head-on.

We’re gonna talk about those fears and then why and how you can just simply overcome them.

1- Fear of Failing

So, the first fear we’re going to talk about is if you are worried about failing and this is a very very common fear. I would say this is probably the number one fear.

I’ve never taken a survey but if I had to guess this is probably the number one fear that most people have, and it really is simply the idea of starting something on your own. You know you’re starting not just a blog but a blogging business and then what if it fails what does that say about your content what does it say about you as a blogging business owner. What does it say about your technique in general?

So, before you like run away and you’re like yeah that’s exactly why I’m terrified of starting a blog. Here’s why I actually think, that you should face that fear and go ahead and start a blog anyway. Because blogs are completely run by that individual. Sometimes organizations will have blogs but let’s say you are the typical individual that is starting a blog for the first time and that means you are in control. You have the flexibility to make it as big or as little as you want.

So, if you are doing a day job and you don’t have a lot of time and you want to start a blogging business and you’re like right now at this stage of my life I want to start it but it’s not going to be this six-figure business overnight. That is okay it can start out very small and you can still consider yourself successful because hello! You’re a responsible man, having a family to look after, and all of the tasks that we mostly have throughout the day.

So, you can set very specific goals to achieve and this is kind of my tip to overcoming this particular fear set a very specific goal such as I want to start a blogging business and by the end of this year, I want to have 20 blog posts written and published.

So, you have a due date and then you also have something very concrete that you want to tackle and so what this does is you look at yourself at the end of the year and you’re working hard at publishing those blog posts. Because that’s probably about all that you can handle at this time. You are still a success at the end of the year. Are you making loads of money? No, but baby steps are okay.

Every single baby step is technically a success. So don’t be too hard on yourself if you manage to figure out how to purchase your hosting and purchase your domain and that’s kind of all you’ve gotten through this thus far. You have succeeded in figuring out something that a lot of other people would be too overwhelmed to figure out or just don’t want to figure out.

So, take joy in the tiny little successes and have a lot of grace with yourself. It is all just a slow-moving process or it can be a slow-moving process and that is okay.

2- Fear of Sharing Your Private Life Online

The second fear is when people are worried about sharing their personal life online. I get this because I am insanely private with social media stuff. I didn’t, I wasn’t always that way but as I have gotten older, I’ve just become increasingly more like a hermit.

So, if this is one of your biggest fears with regards to your family like I don’t want to be putting my family online, I don’t even know that I want to be putting myself online, take comfort in this. You do not have to use your actual legal name you can use a pseudonym if you want. So, if you had a nickname or if you have you know an alternate name that you like to go by.

You can use your nickname or maybe like middle names, that you’ve always gone by then write in that name. There’s no rule out there that says you must use your driver’s license, or id card information online to run a blog.

I do believe that you should include at least your face online I see a lot of people who just have some sort of avatar or like cartoon creation of them and that can actually work in a lot of ways but I’m a big advocate of video and how are you gonna do a video without putting your face online.

You could technically just talk on a microphone that would actually work pretty well but I do personally think that part of my success in building a blogging business is the fact that I’ve been able to add my personal touch by having my personality here on the camera and on my blog.

So, I think your face is important to include but I don’t think you need to include your family if they don’t want to be on your blog. You do not have to reach this like celebrity status of giving the public access to your personal life you know a lot of people that are in the public eye they’ll go through different lengths to make sure that their family life is kept private and you can do that too.

3- Lack of Self Confidence

The third fear I hear about a lot is having really low confidence in your ability to actually give out valuable information. In my own personal experience, the best cure to low confidence is baby steps. So, if you give yourself a really small goal like I’m not going to be a rock star blogger next month, but I am going to accomplish creating my logo.

Well by the end of that month if you have created your logo, you have succeeded, you’ve accomplished something. So now you have just a little bit more confidence and then you can tackle the next project so I kind of believe that. That’s a good approach if you have really low confidence about writing blog posts.

Then just work on writing an outline and then once you accomplish that, you’ll find that it’s not as scary as you think it is and. There are a lot of resources out there to just help you along.

So, if you feel on the other end of the spectrum like okay, I have the confidence to actually figure out how to do this. I just don’t feel like I am worthy of teaching somebody else something. Please don’t feel that way. 99.9% of bloggers are simply one step ahead of someone else and so they turn around and they look at that person and they say I’ve already been through this step I can show you how to get through it in a much easier manner.

Here’s what I suggest or here’s how to do XYZ that way you don’t have to work hard at trying to figure it out. I’ve already done that and here’s how I did it. So that’s basically what a blogger does they’re just one step ahead they’re not like an expert where they’ve spent 25 years. Although there are bloggers out there that have 25 years of experience, most bloggers don’t.

They’re just slightly more experienced than someone else or a target group and so they teach that target group how to come to the next level.

4- Uncomfortable to Ask

The fourth fear that I hear about is that they’re really uncomfortable asking people to buy or asking businesses to sponsor them or asking for money in any way from their blog.

So being a blogger is not really good enough they want to run a blogging business and I believe that I don’t know that I would waste my time just being a blogger. Some people are happy doing that but to me, I feel the most fulfilled when I run a blogging business not just a blog.

So, if you’re uncomfortable with the idea of being like sales, don’t be uncomfortable look at it from a different perspective. So, you are not a slime ball right! You’re not going to scam people right! You’re not here to rip people off, you’re here to teach people something. Always keep this in mind I am trying to help people.

Go from one level to the next. I want to walk them through step by step with something in particular and in doing that I’m providing value. So, if you’re providing value a lot of people are willing to pay for that.

another way to look at is to think of your favorite store. Do you feel like they’re scamming you all the time? And you just keep going back and giving them money? No, I mean they’re providing value in some way. It’s their candles, their home décor, their sparkling water, or anything, but you get value in some way by going to their store and literally handing over your money in exchange for something.

Else you don’t feel like you’re getting scammed because you’re not they’re providing value your kind of doing the same thing although on a much smaller level. Target you are providing value in some way somebody is going to you for help or for inspiration or in exchange for something and in getting that value from you they are willing to pay for it.

So don’t be afraid to ask a business to sponsor you. Don’t be afraid to sell a product today tomorrow or next year because as long as you’re providing value and that’s the key here as long as you’re helping people learn something.

Are you inspiring them to do something and to change their lives, you’re providing value and you are worthy of running a blogging business and that includes selling, either your brand or product in some way?

5- Fear of not Being Unique

The fifth fear that people struggle with is feeling like they are not unique enough or that they are too unique and too specific and that they won’t really find an online fan base. There are so many people in the world. There are people out there that will be drawn to your brand. I don’t need to repeat it so even if you feel like there are just so many bloggers that are writing in the niche that you’re writing about. My first tip would be to try to narrow down your niche, to be honest with you, but my second tip is after you’ve done that just have confidence that there will be people that will naturally gravitate towards your blog over others even if there are other blogs that exist out there writing about the same things.

So even if you feel like no all the spots are taken, all of the blogs have already been written there’s just no room left for me. There are so many people in the world your online fan base will find you because you’re not limited to just 30 miles around you. You’re online so literally, anyone in the entire world that has an internet connection will be able to find you.

So those are the main five fears I wanted to talk about, but if I didn’t mention the main fear that you have, please leave it in the comments down below.

Because I feel like if there’s a post or if there’s some sort of content that I can create to help you guys I want to do it. That’s what I’m here for.

Cheers!
